What’s up around here.

Good day to you all. Thought I’d give an update on things around here.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m working on translating the Japanese version of the game that was known here as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. In Japan, it was called Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasoukyoku (Demon Castle Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight).

Gemini (the person who really did all the work) has his thread over at Romhacking.net. If you’d like to visit there and make a comment or thank him, I certainly encourage it. His thread can be found here. Most of what he’s done in the thread has been related to his original Italian release of the patch, but even so, you can see the awesome quality and skill of his work. He’s put a ton into this project, and I’ve been glad to have been able work with him and help bring this to an English speaking audience.

Once this project is done, I’ll be working on other things, but that’s my number one priority right now. The translating is very nearly complete. I hope to have it wrapped up by the end of the weekend, if not the end of the day. After that, I want to give it a thorough once-over, but I’ll be sure to give an update here when it’s complete. If I can, I’ll try to offer the patch for download here on Absolute Zero as well.

Also, I have to say that my blog got a shocking amount of traffic (and an even more shocking number of spam comments) in the last few days. Thing is, I have no idea why. All I know is that it apparently came from this address. http://www.blackcats-games.net/details.php?id=11949 This seems to be a members-only torrent site from what I can gather. I’m not a member, so I can’t see, but if anyone is, could you help me and tell me anything about this site? I’m just curious in what context all of these people are coming here for, although based on the number of downloads of the translation, I would certainly assume that it’s related to Tales of Phantasia (I mean, that’s all that’s really here). ^_^;; Or maybe I just got spam attacked. Who knows? Not me, but if you do, throw a comment my way!

  1. black-cat is a game torrents website, 4 days ago a guy uploaded ToP:FVE edition there, and I posted your translation, in there….didn’t knew that many people were going to actually play the game XD
    sorry for all the traffic

  2. No, don’t apologize, I’m glad to have the traffic. It was just shocking how much of it there was. I hadn’t checked it for a few days, and suddenly I had 5 times the traffic I had the day before.

    So don’t be sorry, thanks!

  4. Amari Shutsugen Shinai – Don’t Appear Frequently
    Futsuu – Normal
Yoku Shutsugen Suru – Appear Very Frequently

It’s referring to the enemies obviously. So the top one is the one you want to use.

  5. thanks for that =D now I also realised that you get a dark/light aura depending on the one you choose, I guess I should pay more attention to things…
do you have any translation of the battle settings?like when to go all with magic, conserve TP etc…also how do I set a spell to the shoulder buttons?
    thanks again

  6. I have not done a translation of the menu stuff or the battle controls. Off-hand, if, during battle, you go into the Tech menu, just go into someone other than the person you’re controlling’s techs. Pick the one you want and then push L or R and that spell will be cast and then set to that shoulder button.

  8. Re: the “Dracula X” project, I suppose it will retain the original Japanese spoken dialogue?

  9. Of course. The only difference between the original Japanese version and the patched version is that the text will all be translated into English. Of course, because it’s a patch for the Japanese game, obviously have to have a Japanese version of the game to apply the patch to. It won’t work on the US version of the game.
